❤❤❤ DADDY AND JANE! ❤❤❤
I found this show called “Husbands” and let me tell you, it is pure quality. It’s beautifully written, the characters are hilarious, and it even has a great message. The premise might sound cliche (two dudes get wasted and elope) but it seriously is a great show.
It’s an online show, and it can be found on CWseeds.com
I SEE ME IN THE PIC WITH MY DADDY!!!
Last year The CW launched an online distribution platform called CW Seed. As the name implies, this online-only channel was intended to operate as a seeder pipeline. Web series could be produced relatively inexpensively and popular shows with proven concepts could be drafted up to the majors by landing a spot on The CW itself.
CW kicked off their online channel with four projects. One of of those was Husbands, created by Brad Bell and Jane Espenson, a show we’ve written a lot about here at TheBacklot. Another web series was called Backpackers.
The seeder system seems to be working because Variety today reported that CW has promoted its first web series from CW Seed to the main network. They’ve bypassed the pilot process and ordered 12 TV episodes of Backpackers. That is great news forBackpackers, but it’s curious that CW Seed’s most popular series– and the one with the most critical acclaim– has so far been overlooked. Maybe a pickup for Husbands is also in the works?
A quote from the Variety article today is telling…
“While Backpackers wasn’t actually CW Seed’s most-watched series, the network realized early on its story had a broader-based appeal than others, and would translate well to TV.”
How exactly is The CW determining what has “broader-based appeal”? It’s worth pointing out that Husbands has been nominated for two Writer’s Guild Association (WGA) Awards– the first such award that The CW ever received. That, plus it’s timely subject matter (gay marriage) and, you know, the actual popularity of the series sure makes it seem like Husbands deserves a shot on the main CW network.
If The CW really is going to leave it’s most popular, most buzzworthy, and most critically-acclaimed online series sitting on the bench it sort of defeats the purpose of a seeder channel.
